The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of 'merle', the French name for the blackbird. This of course refers to the dark black colour of the grapes when they ripen. Merlot is one of the 'big three red' varietals grown worldwide which is attributed in part to it's easy pronunciation. Remember, the 'T' is silent.
Our Merlot is a medium-bodied red. Aromas of fresh tobacco and clove spice. Ripe black cherry, fresh plum and toasted oak on the palate. The well-integrated tannins makes the Merlot an ideal wine to cellar for a year or so.
Serve (at about 18c) with grilled steaks, pizza, Hamburgers & stuffed mushrooms.
Cheeses like Camembert, Gouda pair well too.
