The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of 'merle', the French name for the blackbird. This of course refers to the dark black colour of the grapes when they ripen. Merlot is one of the 'big three red' varietals grown worldwide which is attributed in part to it's easy pronunciation. Remember, the 'T' is silent.
This Merlot showcases varietal typicity with bright red fruit and pleasing spice. Plum and sweet spice on the nose with a smoky, toasty oak finish and lingering fruit.
Barrel aged in French and Hungarian oak for 20 months.
Serve with grilled steaks, pizza, Hamburgers & stuffed mushrooms.
Cheeses like Camembert, Gouda pair well too.
