The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of 'merle', the French name for the blackbird. This of course refers to the dark black colour of the grapes when they ripen. Merlot is one of the 'big three red' varietals grown worldwide which is attributed in part to it's easy pronunciation. Remember, the 'T' is silent.
Our Merlot is a medium-bodied red. Aromas of bright red fruit, cherry & strawberry. Ripe dark cherry, fresh plum, sweet spice and subtle oak on the palate. Well-integrated tannins makes the Merlot 2015 an ideal wine to cellar for a year or so. The perfect varietal showcase of how a Merlot should present.
Barrel aged in French, American & Canadian oak for 18 months.
Serve (at about 18c) with grilled steaks, pizza, Hamburgers & stuffed mushrooms.
Cheeses like Camembert, Gouda pair well too.
