There's more to Discover about Harwood Pinot Gris 2015...
1. White wine from a red grape!
You'd probably guess Pinot Gris was a white wine from the name (Gris = grey). But it's actually made from a purple-red grape. To make a white wine from these grapes, the juice is pressed away from the skins instantly. However, a cold soak overnight with the skins can impart some colour. This process, known as 'Vin Gris', is exactly what our winemaker chose to do and is also why our Pinot Gris 2015 has a lovely, soft, peachy hue.
2. First off the vine!
Pinot Gris matures rather quickly, so it's generally the first European grape to be picked. Harvest usually commences late-September and allows for us to capture the perfect balance of natural sugar, minerality and acidity, all of which brings out the bright orchard fruit flavours we love in our Pinot Gris 2015.
3. A grape by many other names
What is the difference between Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio? Simply put, there really isn't one. Winemaking styles may differ between geographical locations but both styles are made from the same grape family. Harwood's Pinot Gris 2015 is very traditional with it's presentation of orchard fruit and vibrant minerality on the palate.
